I consider it's an interesting game to try, but I'm not a fan. Darkest Dungeon: Very roughly 7M of sales, just another category. There are also many hints that it's a much higher budget base than 3D graphics simplified, like a lot of vocal acting, more pro writing. The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos, very roughly 240K sales, but the context is so different, more a Tactical RPG and even more a Tactical game with RPG elements. Hence the very rough estimation of much higher sales, about 1M, can be clearly explained by other reasons than graphics with a stronger style. The Banner Saga: But this game got a huge amount of attention coming from a high-level com from ex Bioware employees, plus the game brought on the table an approach that felt more fresh and a com/pub at another level. Moreover despite I consider this game is screwed up by boredom tedium last parts, it umulates qualities for which even Spiderweb games have difficulty to fully compare with. It covered a specific sub-genre not yet much targeted in this time, the Fallout 1&2 successors so less concurrency on a specific sub-genre. UnderRail: For me, it has much better graphics, but that high amount of sales (very roughly 240K) have probably many more reasons, for example, years before release the game got a lot of attention and a lot more than any Spiderweb game since a decade and more. I quoted a few exceptions, but for each, there are other parameters than graphics, I quoted: Still, when looking at the (approximate) number of sales, most show it hardly helps to have a more appealing graphic style. And there's a long list for which I find the graphics much proper if not just much better and much more appealing. I picked in games I played those with graphics that don't seem more advanced or at least not 3D and not too much detailed. I'm afraid that a 3D shift would have killed all the series, a too big budget increase. It can make wonder where would be Spiderweb games with more focus/money/time on graphics improvement.
